Bali
I have travelled to over 40 countries but sadly my photos are pretty dismal and stored here, there and everywhere. (please take note, I'm a bit of a perfectionist (a work in progress) and some of my pics pre 2004 are on an SLR/film camera - Canon 400D and a Canon film point and shoot). Photos have been scanned and are on display at best. In time I will add more. For now I'm living in Bali so I can't get to them. Truth be known they used to be on here but I ruthlessly deleted them all except for my Bali ones....why?? No fucking idea
I love seeing these shops around Bali. It's part of their cultural essence.
Horse & cart only (or bikes) on these gorgeous islands. From what I saw these horses were treated quite well. The owners slept close to them, rested them in the shade & they even have a special language they use to instruct them. Pretty cool for the kids!
With a view like this, $2 beers, $2 nasi goreng or nasi campur & happy kids, what more do you need...
View from Playgrounds Surf break end.
Is this real or in my dreams!
Quality resort near Uluwatu, Padang Padang. We scored an amazing family room with two rooms seperated by a quaint little foyer. All lockable and very reasonable priced. Highly recommend for families or anyone really. The bungalows in the picture were in a different section. How stunning are they...
Paradise personified...
Loved this area on the east coast of Bali. Not far north of Candi Dasa. Still developing & a diving meca.
After a long day shopping, getting pampered in one of the many spas or site seeing, get yourself showered and plonk yourself with your buddies and get comfy. Cocktail heaven, sunset magic, epic tunes, happy people. I'm in love...
Just get there...
Well, what can I say about this stretch of ocean between Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Ceningan. Home to the locals where seaweed farming is their livelihood. This view is from the lovely Le Pirate resort. You can visit for the day & use their glorious pool if you have something to eat or drink. This place is nothing short of pure bliss in my book. We hired a canoe for half an hour - $2.
We had dinner at The Hai Tide Beach Resort. Spectatular...
Finding places like this in Bali is my favourite thing to do...
Freshly caught & bike delivered to the restaurants.
Me in my bliss bubble.
The shopping in Bali will blow your mind. From sarongs in poppies lane in Kuta to the funkiest stuff for your home in Seminyak, Ubud & everywhere these days.
I'm salivating
Cheap stays for a couple.
Another random bar. Take your pick...
This nasi was incredible. It had it all. Check out that divine chilli sauce!!
Take a horse & cart to this destination which is on the north east side. From what I saw, the horses are treated really well. The owners sleep near them at night, rest them in the shade & handle them fairly. The owners have a language only the horses understand. Makes for a fun adventure, especially for the kiddies.
Loved staying here. Around 8 or so beautifully crafted bamboo bungalows surrounding a stunning pool. Quaint, clean, perfectly located amongst some incredible eats & all for $70 per night per family (so it was in 2014). Highly recommend.
This is a typical window display (inside the shop) of their local cuisine. You will find the locals here & tourists who appreciate the Indonesian flavours. I LOVE this food & so so cheap. Fill your plate high for around $3 or $4.
Find a cute warung (cafe) along this stretch of beach. Kick back with a coconut, a bintang or a cocktail along with a mighy fine nasi goreng or a curry. Be mesmorised by the surfing or get out there yourself. If you love surfing then Balangan is definitely worth the trip. The shallows were a bit rocky for our kids to swim so not really a family beach for swimming. High tide might be better?
An epic left for the experienced surfer. Get here early as it buzzes with everyone from every culture by about 10am. Worth as part of a day trip. Then head to Uluwatu.
Bali - Island of the Gods
I have had the absolute pleasure of being a guest in Bali six times. I plan on many more because I can't get it out of my head or literal dreams...
The island, full of so many magical elements has a very special place in my heart. I first ventured there at the young age of 23 (1997) with some friends. It was a bustling island oozing a vibe so enriched with surfing, sunsets, exotic food, icy beers, character filled boats, surf trips, shopping, tropical gardens and the most adorable friendly people.
....and the smells - a rich combination of scents hits you when you arrive at Denpasar airport and it never leaves you until your board that plane out of there. My husband gives me so much grief over my love for the Bali smell. He says it smells like shit! Literal shit. He couldn't be more incorrect. I have no idea what's going on with his nostrils? Mine ponder in a place reminiscent of an exotic wonderland. The whiff of frangipanis, incense, mosquito coils, petrol fumes and yes a hint of sewer. All mixed together and you have a potion I wish I could bottle.
